The Ghana Football Association has explained why Carlos Queiroz was chosen as the new head coach of the Black Stars.
Queiroz has signed a short-term contract to lead the national team into the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He replaces Otto Addo, who was let go after inconsistent results despite helping Ghana qualify for the World Cup.
Other well-known coaches, such as Pitso Mosimane, Kwesi Appiah, and Paulo Bento, were also considered for the job before the final choice was made.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum told Asempa FM that Queiroz was chosen because he gave a detailed assessment of the team.
“Carlos Queiroz presented an in-depth analysis of the Black Stars, from their AFCON qualification setback to their World Cup qualification,” he explained.
“He demonstrated strong knowledge of the players and outlined a clear plan for guiding the team beyond the group stage at the World Cup,” Asante Twum added.
Queiroz will meet the team next month during a friendly match against Mexico, then finish preparations with a final warm-up game against Wales on June 2.
Ghana is preparing for its fifth World Cup and will play in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars start their campaign on June 17 against Panama, then face England and Croatia.
After leaving the tournament at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022, Queiroz aims to help Ghana perform better this time.
