Black Stars defender Marvin Senaya faces a long time out after suffering a hamstring injury that ended his tournament during Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Colombia in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The AJ Auxerre right-back had to leave the field just 13 minutes into the knockout match on July 3. The injury cut short what had been an impressive tournament for him.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz later said that the early substitution disrupted Ghana’s defense. The reshuffle happened just before Colombia scored the goal that knocked the Black Stars out of the World Cup.
Before his injury, the 25-year-old was one of Ghana’s top performers. He started all four matches and helped keep clean sheets against Panama and England.
Senaya told fans on social media that he needs surgery but promised he will come back stronger.
“This injury means I need surgery, and it will keep me away from the game for a while,” Senaya. “But believe me when I say this: I will come back stronger than you have ever seen me before.”
The defender is expected to travel to France soon for surgery and to start his recovery.
