Ghana international Iñaki Williams says he is proud of the Black Stars, even though they were knocked out in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-time African champions ended their World Cup run after a close 1-0 loss to Colombia at Kansas City Stadium. Jhon Arias scored in the first half, which was enough to send Colombia to the Round of 16.
Even though the result was disappointing, the Athletic Bilbao captain thanked Ghanaians on social media for their strong support and promised that the team would come back stronger.
“Proud of this team and of all the work we’ve done. We all wanted more, but seeing the whole country come together again to support the Black Stars has been truly special. From the heart, thank you, Ghana. We’ll come back,” Williams wrote.
Ghana made it to the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams, finishing behind England and Croatia in Group L. They beat Panama, drew 0-0 with England, and lost narrowly to Croatia before being eliminated by Colombia.
The Black Stars will now turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which start in September, as they aim to recover from their World Cup disappointment.
