WORLD CUP 2026: Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew upbeat ahead of Colombia clash

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew says Ghana is fully prepared for Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match against Colombia and believes the team is ready to step up.

Before the knockout match at Arrowhead Stadium, Ayew said Colombia will be a tough opponent but he is confident in the tactics set by head coach Carlos Queiroz.

“Colombia are a top side, and it’s going to be a difficult game, but I’m confident about the tactics the manager has told us,” Ayew said.

“I think we will be ready for the challenge, so there is no problem about that.”

This match is Ghana’s first time in the World Cup knockout stage since their memorable quarter-final run in 2010. It is also the first time these two teams will meet in a competitive game.

The Black Stars moved on from Group L as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams. They beat Panama, drew with England, and narrowly lost to Croatia.

Colombia finished first in Group K with an unbeaten record, earning seven points from two wins and a draw.

Ayew has often stressed how important the knockout stages are, reminding his teammates that every match is now win or go home.

The winner of Saturday’s match will play Switzerland in the Round of 16. Kick-off is set for 01:30 GMT.
