WORLD CUP 2026: Haaland leads Norway to the Round of 16 with a 2–1 win over Ivory Coast

Erling Haaland scored his fifth goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Norway beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in a tough Round of 32 match at AT&T Stadium, earning a spot in the Round of 16.

The Manchester City striker made the difference by scoring the late winning goal that sent Norway through after an exciting knockout match.

Ivory Coast started well and nearly scored early when Nicolas Pépé found space in the box, but Norway’s defense blocked his shot.

Norway took the lead in the 39th minute when Antonio Nusa dribbled past several defenders and curled a shot into the top corner, giving goalkeeper Yahia Fofana no chance.

Norway almost scored again moments later when Haaland was first to a loose ball in the box, but his shot was cleared off the line.

Ivory Coast came out strong after halftime. Pépé forced a good save from Ørjan Nyland, and Emmanuel Agbadou nearly scored with a header.

Their efforts paid off in the 74th minute when Amad Diallo made a solo run and finished well to tie the game for the Elephants.

With extra time approaching, Haaland made the difference again. In the 86th minute, he received a well-placed pass in the box and calmly scored to put Norway back in front.

That goal brought Haaland’s total to five in the tournament and secured Norway’s place in the Round of 16.

Norway will now play Brazil in a big Round of 16 match on Sunday, July 5. Haaland will look to keep up his strong scoring run.
