Afadzinu retains ITTF sustainability role, boosting Ghana’s global influence

The International Table Tennis Federation Council has reappointed Mawuko Afadzinu as Sustainability Committee Chair, further highlighting his growing impact within the sport’s global governance structures.

The development was communicated to stakeholders by Nathaniel Kwesi Somuah, Head of Communications at the Ghana Table Tennis Association, marking another significant achievement for Ghanaian representation on the international stage.

Afadzinu, currently the only African leading an ITTF Permanent Committee, continues to strengthen his standing among the sport’s global decision-makers, playing a key role in advancing sustainability initiatives within the federation.

His reappointment comes at a time when the ITTF is intensifying efforts around environmental responsibility, governance reforms, and long-term development through its Sustainability Strategy and Planet Game Plan 2030—initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices across member associations.

Afadzinu’s continued leadership reflects strong confidence in his vision and track record, having guided the committee’s work in areas such as sustainability education, stakeholder engagement, and environmental accountability.

His role not only amplifies Africa’s voice in shaping the future of international table tennis administration but also highlights the continent’s growing influence beyond competition, particularly in governance and policy development.

For Ghana, his confirmation underscores the country’s rising presence within global table tennis structures, contributing meaningfully to decision-making and international development efforts.

As sustainability becomes increasingly central to sport worldwide, Afadzinu’s leadership places both Ghana and Africa at the forefront of driving impactful change within the game.
