Former Ghana international Kwadwo Asamoah has offered a cautious yet optimistic outlook on the Black Stars’ chances ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana face a tough Group L challenge against the England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England and Croatia.
Speaking to 3Sports, Asamoah admitted he is managing expectations despite Ghana’s strong World Cup history.
“I’m not expecting too much, but I’m hopeful. It’s a difficult group,” he said.
The former Juventus midfielder stressed that modern international football leaves little room for complacency.
“At the World Cup, there are no small or big teams. Every opponent must be respected because anyone can step up,” he noted.
While acknowledging the challenge ahead, the 35-year-old believes Ghana can compete if they approach the tournament with the right mindset, preparation, and belief.
Ghana will be making their fifth World Cup appearance at the 48-team tournament, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, hoping to improve on past performances, including their historic quarterfinal run in 2010.
