Carlos Queiroz hails Black Stars job as an honour and privilege

Veteran coach Carlos Queiroz has described his appointment as Black Stars head coach as both an honor and a privilege, expressing pride in becoming part of Ghana’s football community.

At 73, Queiroz takes over from Otto Addo on a four-month contract. He will lead the senior national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

Queiroz was officially introduced in Accra on Thursday at the Alisa Hotel. Before that, he met with Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, at the Sports Ministry.

When speaking to the media, the Portuguese coach thanked everyone and said the opportunity meant a lot to him.

“I just want to say thank you and express how I feel from my heart,” he said.

“To be part of Ghana’s sporting family is a great honor. I have strong African roots. I was born and raised in Mozambique, so leading an African nation like Ghana to the World Cup is something truly special and unforgettable in my life.”

Ghana will make its fifth appearance at the World Cup. They are in a tough Group L with England, Croatia, and Panama.

The Black Stars start their campaign against Panama on June 17. They will then play England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
