Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials are reportedly considering Desmond Ofei as a potential successor to Carlos Queiroz, as negotiations regarding the Portuguese coach’s future with the Black Stars remain unresolved.
Appointed in April 2026 on a four-month contract, Queiroz led Ghana to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, negotiations to extend his tenure have reportedly stalled due to his contractual demands.
Amid uncertainty over Queiroz’s future, Ofei has emerged as a strong internal candidate. The 38-year-old is familiar with the senior national team, having served as assistant coach under both Queiroz and Otto Addo.
Ofei holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has significant experience within Ghana’s national team structure. He led the Black Satellites to gold at the 2023 African Games and has worked with the Black Meteors at the U-23 level.
Ofei has also served as interim head coach, leading the Black Stars in a friendly against Mexico during Queiroz’s absence.
His famHis familiarity with the current squad and broad experience across Ghana’s national teams position him as a strong candidate if the GFA chooses not to extend Queiroz’s contract. the Black Stars set to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign next month, the GFA is expected to decide on the head coaching position soon as preparations intensify for the qualifiers.
