Following his election as a CAF Executive Council Member, GFA President Kurt Okraku expressed enthusiasm for future opportunities.
Only five other Ghanaians—Ohene Djan, Kobina Hagan, Nana Fredua Mensah, Samuel Okyere, and Kwesi Nyantakyi—had previously held the position that Okraku now occupies.
The GFA has been under Okraku’s leadership since 2019; he ran on the WAFU B ticket.
Under his leadership, the Black Stars participated in the 2019 and 2023 AFCONs and the 2022 World Cup.
Following Augustine Senghor’s departure, the demand for Kurt Okraku to assume the position of first Vice President of CAF has intensified.
Kurt Okraku is considered trustworthy, competent, innovative, and suitable for the position across West Africa.
Kurt’s name has been proposed in response to calls for more Anglophone representation in the CAF leadership.
Kurt Okraku shared his thoughts on the subject in an exclusive 3Sports interview with freelance journalist Alexia Laura Ehiagwina.
“I want to make full use of this opportunity. I don’t know what the future holds. But truth be told, whatever opportunities that comes my way, I will give it my absolute best,” he said.
Okraku’s position on CAF’s ExCo enhances Ghana’s strategic positioning within the organization’s decision-making processes.
He answered when he inquired about his plans to use the platform to revitalize Ghana’s football.
“We started a journey after the game collapsed, and I always said it would be very demanding. But I have always said that we would do it. To rebuild a building that has been crushed takes a lot of effort, investment, and patience. I will always ask for patience and to build together. When we do this, our collective future will be better.”
