Former Liverpool manager Klopp joins Red Bull

Red Bull has named Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool manager, as their global head of soccer.

The 57-year-old German is set to commence the role on January 1, 2025.

“A few months ago I said I don’t see myself on the sidelines any more, and that is still the case,” Klopp said on Instagram.

“But I still love football, I still love working, and Red Bull gives me the perfect platform for that.”

The energy drinks brand Red Bull possesses RB Leipzig in Germany’s Bundesliga, Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, and Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil.

Earlier this year, it took on the role of Leeds’ front-of-shirt sponsor and also acquired a minority stake in the Championship side.

Klopp won’t handle day-to-day operations, but will provide guidance on playing philosophy, transfer strategy, and coaching development, according to Red Bull.

“I want to share the experiences I have collected over the years,” said Klopp.

“We all know there are more successful managers out there, but in my career I have fought for promotion, fought for titles, and I have fought for trophies.

“Sometimes we failed, sometimes we succeeded, and dealing with that is not easy, but it is possible.

“Then I want to learn again. Because when you are on the job and you have to play every three days, you barely have the time.

“I want to see, feel, and figure out what is useful for football, developing football a little bit as well.”

Jurgen Klopp, according to Oliver Mintzlaff, the company’s CEO of corporate projects and investments, is a highly influential and talented individual in the world of soccer.

“In his role as head of soccer, he will be a game-changer for our involvement in international soccer and its continued development.”

Klopp secured a total of eight trophies during his nine-year tenure at Liverpool, which included both the Premier League and Champions League titles, before departing at the end of last season.

Mainz was where he first embarked on his managerial career in 2001, and in 2008 he moved on to Borussia Dortmund, where he secured two Bundesliga titles and reached the 2013 Champions League final.

After resigning in May 2015 for a sabbatical, he came back in October to fill Brendan Rodgers’ position at Anfield.

Red Bull has made investments in ice hockey, extreme sports, motorsports, and two Formula 1 teams. Red Bull Racing currently holds the titles for both drivers and constructors in Formula 1.

Klopp’s appointment will be officially announced during a news conference in mid-January.
