West Ham United have finalized the acquisition of Argentina midfielder Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer.
The Hammers have signed the 30-year-old player after his contract with Real Betis expired.
Having made 30 appearances for Argentina, Rodriguez was a member of the 2022 World Cup-winning team and has won the Copa America twice.
“I feel like it’s every footballer’s dream to play in the Premier League, and I was very excited when I heard that West Ham were interested in me,” he said.
“It’s a historic club that has a really interesting project. I think it’s the right club for me, at the right time, and I hope together we can keep growing.”
Rodriguez, who began his career at River Plate, mentioned that he spoke to Edson Alvarez, the West Ham and Mexico midfielder, about relocating to east London before finalizing the move. They were also teammates at Club America in Mexico.
Since Julen Lopetegui became manager, West Ham have already spent over £100m this summer.
Dutch forward Crysencio Summerville from Leeds, Germany striker Niclas Fullkrug from Dortmund, midfielder Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras, and defender Max Kilman from Wolves have all been signed by them.
