Coventry City has completed the transfer of Brandon Thomas-Asante from West Bromwich Albion after a tumultuous week during which he seemed destined to join Hull.
The Sky Blues made a last-minute move on Tuesday, and the 25-year-old striker, who has a history with first-team coach George Boateng in the Ghana national team, joined the CBS Arena instead.
City have signed the versatile frontman to a four-year contract after he joined for a rumored fee of over £2 million.
“We’re excited to welcome Brandon to Coventry City,” said City manager Mark Robins.
“He is a powerful and pacy striker with a goalscoring pedigree at this level, plus a great attitude and work rate.
“Brandon can play across the front line and will further strengthen our attacking options. We look forward to working with him at Coventry City.”
Thomas-Asante started his professional journey at his hometown club, Milton Keynes Dons, debuting at 17 in 2016. After loan stints at Sutton United and Oxford City, he departed Milton Keynes in 2019 with 35 appearances.
Following a short stint at Ebbsfleet United, Brandon succeeded at Salford City in League Two, playing 126 matches, netting 30 goals, and securing the EFL Trophy.
His impressive form at Salford resulted in a transfer to West Bromwich Albion in the Championship for the start of the 2022–23 campaign. As a striker, Thomas-Asante was the top goal scorer in the 22/23 and 23/24 seasons at West Brom, netting nine and then 12 goals, respectively. Throughout his time with the Baggies, he played 78 games and has also received support from Ghana.
