Kylian Mbappé rules out Olympics after moving to Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappé has made it clear that he won’t be joining France’s Olympic team at the Paris Games, as his new club, Real Madrid, opposes the idea.

The 25-year-old stated in March that he wanted to participate in his home games, but clubs are not obligated to release players because the Olympic football tournament is not on FIFA’s calendar.

Despite not being included in the Olympics preliminary squad earlier this month, Mbappé still has a chance to join the team, as head coach Thierry Henry left the door open.

Mbappé informed reporters before Monday’s Group D match against Austria at Euro 2024 that his club’s stance was crystal clear, leading him to realize he would not participate in the Games.

“I acknowledge and understand that’s just how things are. It’s not the most optimal start to my adventure, as I’ll join a new team in September.”

As a fellow enthusiast, I extend my heartfelt support to this French team. I’m committed to watching every game and hope that they win the gold medal.

The men’s Olympic football tournament starts on July 24, 10 days following the European Championships final, and concludes on Aug. 9.
