Ghana has made remarkable progress in sports development this year, with notable improvements in infrastructure and impressive performances in international competitions. On Tuesday, July 23, during the 2024 mid-year budget review in Parliament, Minister of Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam emphasized this.
Dr. Adam has reported significant progress in enhancing sports infrastructure and nurturing talent, giving Ghanaian athletes plenty of support to succeed.
From March 4 to 23, 2024, Ghana successfully hosted the 13th African Games in Accra. The games occurred at the newly constructed multi-purpose sports facility in Borteyman and the newly commissioned University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Ghana achieved its highest success in an international multi-sport event, securing the sixth position on the medal table with 69 medals: 19 gold, 29 silver, and 21 bronze.
Dr. Adam emphasized that our commitment to sports development and the athletes’ dedication were demonstrated through this exceptional performance at the 13th African Games. “The new facilities at Borteyman and the University of Ghana have provided a world-class environment for our athletes to shine.”
The Black Challenge, Ghana’s national amputee football team, emerged victorious in the African Games and the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations in Egypt, securing a spot in the 2026 Amputee World Cup Tournament.
Dr. Adam expressed his pride in the Black Challenge’s victory at the African Amputee Football Cup of Nations. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the team as they prepare for the 2026 Amputee World Cup, underscoring the resilience and talent of Ghana’s athletes.
