Ghanaian Prince Yaw Owusu has abruptly stepped down as Asante Kotoko’s temporary head coach, effective immediately.
The Kumasi-based club announced in an official statement that the coach had resigned, emphasizing that the move serves the team’s best interests.
Owusu took the reins as interim head coach on February 9, 2026, following Abdul Karim Zito’s departure. His spell was marked by disappointing results, mounting pressure, and a chorus of supporters demanding new leadership.
“Interim Head Coach Prince Yaw Owusu has stepped down from his role with immediate effect. The coach stated in his resignation letter that his decision was taken in the greatest interest of the club,” the statement read.
“Management expresses its sincere appreciation to Coach for his service, dedication, and commitment during his time with the club, and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.”
In the wake of Owusu’s departure, Youth Team Coach Hamza Obeng has been entrusted with guiding the Porcupine Warriors through the rest of the season.
