Kevin Danso faced a wave of racist abuse after Tottenham Hotspur’s hard-fought draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

A late mistake from the defender opened the door for Georginio Rutter to strike in stoppage time, snatching away a vital win and leaving Spurs, desperate to escape relegation, still chasing their first victory of 2026.

In the aftermath, Danso was bombarded with racist comments online. Yet he answered with calm determination, denouncing the abuse and keeping his sights set firmly on his game.

“Yesterday’s result wasn’t what we wanted. We gave everything, learned from it, and moved forward,” he wrote. “I’ve seen the comments, too. Racism has no place in football or anywhere else. It doesn’t define me, and it won’t distract me from what truly matters. I know who I am, what I stand for, and why I play.”

He added that his focus remains on improving and helping the team bounce back: “Now it’s about staying focused, working harder, and returning stronger. We keep pushing, believing, and giving our all every time we step onto the pitch. Stronger together. On to the next.”

Last summer, the former Southampton center-back made his move to Spurs permanent after a standout loan spell, during which his influence was crucial in guiding the club to its historic first European title.
