Carlos Queiroz will continue as head coach of the Black Stars after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation agreed to extend his tenure beyond his initial four-month contract.
After reviewing Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, the GFA and Sports Ministry agreed that Queiroz is the right coach to lead the national team forward.
Queiroz is expected to sign a new two-year contract, with the primary goal of securing Ghana’s first Africa Cup of Nations title since 1982 at the 2027 tournament.
The Black Stars have not won the AFCON trophy since 1982, making continental success their top priority.
Appointed on a short-term basis before the World Cup, Queiroz led Ghana past the group stage before their elimination by Colombia in the Round of 32.
Despite the early exit, his tactical discipline, organization, and professionalism impressed the GFA and government officials, who believe continuity is key to building a stronger, more competitive team.
Queiroz, who has previously coached Portugal, Iran, Egypt, Colombia, Qatar, and South Africa, will now oversee Ghana’s preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers and other international fixtures as the Black Stars aim to reclaim continental success.
Officials believe Queiroz’s extensive experience at both FIFA World Cup and AFCON levels makes him the ideal candidate to lead the team for the next two years.
His anticipated contract extension is seen as a key step toward stabilizing the national team after several years of managerial changes.
An official announcement is expected soon, with both the GFA and the Ministry of Sport
