Late drama seals D.C. United victory against Orlando City

D.C. United pulled off an exciting comeback, beating Orlando City 3-2 at Audi Field on Saturday night.

Louis Munteanu scored his first career goal late in the second half to tie the game, and then Kye Rowles got his first goal for the club to secure the win.

D.C. United (3-4-3) started well, going ahead in the 10th minute when Jackson Hopkins scored off a pass from Keisuke Kurokawa, who is in his debut season. It was Hopkins’ first goal this season, and Kurokawa’s first assist in his 10th league game.

Orlando City (2-7-1) answered in the 57th minute, as 18-year-old forward Justin Ellis scored his first goal of the season in only his second start.

Ten minutes later, Tyrese Spicer put the visitors ahead, finishing a pass from defender Adrián Marín. It was Spicer’s first goal this season, and Marín’s first assist in 13 games.

D.C. United rallied late, as Munteanu tied the game in the 84th minute after a setup from rookie defender Nikola Markovic, who earned his second assist of the season.

The winning goal came in the last minute of regulation, with Jacob Murrell assisting Rowles. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson kept the lead safe during 10 minutes of stoppage time.

Rowles’ goal was his first direct contribution after 31 games last season, finishing off a memorable comeback for D.C. United.
