Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has provided his input on how the Black Stars can succeed in their games.
He believes the players’ collective mindset is the key to winning games, and he encourages them to unite for a shared objective.
Stephen Appiah underscored the value of commitment, pointing out that players picked for national duty should understand the honor of representing Ghana.
Among the countless Ghanaians striving for the chance, he emphasized that those chosen to wear the Black Stars jersey should feel unparalleled dedication and pride.
“Players who come to the national team have to be committed. I am not seeing that. They have to be committed because, out of a population of 30-something million, you are part of a select 23. It is an honor. You are representing Ghana, and you must make it worthwhile,” Stephen Appiah stated during his appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.
He pondered the team’s recent challenges and acknowledged that winning matches entails more than having a capable captain. He thinks that real success is only possible when all players on the team have a common purpose.
“For the past five years, we are struggling; we are not seeing things like that [commitment]. You can be a good captain, it doesn’t mean you can win games. When you and your colleagues have the same goal, you win,” Appiah remarked.
The Black Stars will return to action in October to pursue qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Securing a spot in the prestigious tournament hinges on Ghana’s crucial back-to-back victories against Sudan.
