The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially appointed Samson Adamu as its substantive General Secretary following a competitive recruitment process.
Adamu, who has served as Acting General Secretary since March 2026, was confirmed in the role by the CAF Executive Committee during its latest meeting, securing the governing body’s top administrative position on a permanent basis.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe announced the appointment, noting that the role was publicly advertised and filled after a thorough selection process involving multiple candidates.
The appointment marks another milestone in Adamu’s rise within African football administration. Since joining CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions, he has progressed to Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a key role in the organisation of several major continental competitions, including the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
With eight years of experience at CAF, Adamu brings extensive institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of the operational demands of African football governance.
He is also a graduate of the prestigious FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, further strengthening his credentials for the role.
As General Secretary, Adamu will oversee CAF’s day-to-day operations and support the implementation of the organisation’s strategic objectives under Motsepe’s leadership. His permanent appointment is expected to provide stability and continuity as CAF continues efforts to grow and strengthen football across Africa.
