Carlos Queiroz thanked Ghanaians and encouraged continued support for the Black Stars after his exit.
The Portuguese coach and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) agreed to end his contract on Thursday, bringing his second time in charge to a close.
In his farewell, Queiroz thanked fans for their warm welcome and support during his time with the team.
“To the Ghanaian people and all Black Stars supporters, thank you for your passion, support and warmth. I will always carry Ghana with me with respect and affection.”
Queiroz also said he believes in the current squad and called for a supportive environment to help the players reach their potential.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” he said.
“The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana.”
Queiroz came back to lead Ghana in the 2026 World Cup and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations campaigns. He left after the team lost its first two AFCON qualifiers.
The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké, then gave up a two-goal lead and lost 4-2 to The Gambia in Accra.
Looking back on his time as coach, Queiroz thanked the GFA and its president, Kurt Okraku, for trusting him with the team.
“It has been an honor to serve Ghana and the Black Stars. I sincerely thank the Ghana Football Association and particularly its President for their trust and for the opportunity to lead such a proud football nation,” he said.
He also thanked his technical staff and the players who played for Ghana under him.
Queiroz said he took the job hoping to strengthen the Black Stars and help develop Ghanaian talent, but felt the right conditions for success were not fully in place.
Even as he leaves, his farewell message showed gratitude and continued belief in Ghanaian football.
“I leave with respect, gratitude and pride”.
