Benjamin Asare says he is not worried about facing some of the world’s top attackers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He believes that staying confident and trusting his skills will be important on football’s biggest stage.
Since making his debut for the Ghana national team in March 2025, the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper has become Ghana’s first-choice keeper and is expected to keep his spot for the tournament.
Ghana is in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia, which means they will face some of the best attacking players in the tournament.
Asare told 3Sports that criticism and public opinions are a normal part of playing football at the top level.
“They say it always, but it’s their opinion. The moment you reach this level, people will say a lot of things,” he stated.
The former Great Olympics goalkeeper admitted that the strikers at the tournament will be very good, but he noted that even the best goalkeepers let in goals against top forwards.
“Although by God’s grace I’ve reached this level, some of these players also play against top goalkeepers, who even concede. So how much more me, now making strides thanks to God,” he explained.
The 26-year-old said that talk about whether he is ready for the World Cup has only made him more motivated, not doubtful.
“No, it doesn’t bother me; it rather encourages me because not everyone makes it to this level,” he said.
Asare also said he wants to help improve how people around the world see Ghanaian and African goalkeepers, while also working to succeed for himself and his family.
“Personally, I’m okay and focused on my career. I want to get a good standing in the world so that this Ghanaian or African goalkeeper is very good. Or get a big achievement for myself and family,” he added.
Under coach Carlos Queiroz, Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars are also scheduled to play friendly matches against Mexico and Wales as part of preparations for the tournament.
