Kotoko keeper Mohamed Camara punished with five-game suspension over referee assault

The Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee has handed Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Mohamed Camara a five-match ban and a hefty GHS 20,000 fine after ruling him guilty of misconduct.

This punishment stems from a dramatic Matchday 25 showdown against Karela United at the Tamale Sports Stadium on March 8, 2026, in which the Porcupine Warriors fell 1-0.

In its official ruling released on April 21, the committee determined that Camara engaged in unsporting behavior and physically confronted the match referee after the final whistle.

The fiery contest saw Kotoko reduced to 10 men in the first half, and after the final whistle, tempers flared as the Guinean goalkeeper allegedly hurled abuse at officials, sparking a physical altercation.

In addition to his immediate five-game suspension, Camara now faces a 14-day deadline to pay the GHS 20,000 fine or face even harsher disciplinary action.

The committee also delivered a stern warning about Camara’s future conduct and cited Kotoko’s Welfare Officer, Kwasi Frimpong Amos, for his role in the incident.
