Manchester City has completed the signing of Brazil winger Savinho Moreira de Oliveira from Troyes in a 40m euros (£30.8m) transfer until 2029.
The 20-year-old made a loan move to Girona last season and played a key role in their third-place finish in La Liga.
Savinho played a crucial role in their historic Champions League qualification with an exceptional loan performance at Girona.
With 11 goals and 10 assists, he played a key role in helping the Catalonia club finish third behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.
His first call to the international squad came in March 2024, and he debuted at Wembley in a 1-0 victory over England.
Savinho, a member of Dorival Junior’s team, netted his first goal for Brazil in a 4-1 triumph over Paraguay in the Copa America.
According to Savinho, City is currently the “best team in the world,” and he is thrilled to be mentored by Pep Guardiola, whom he considers “one of the greatest coaches ever.”
On why Manchester City is the right club for him, Savinho said: “[Because of] everything I’ve seen today. I just arrived this morning, and I turned to my agent and stepfather and said, ‘There was no way I was going to turn down Manchester City.”
“I’m a Brazilian who finds happiness in playing attacking football with joy.”
“I enjoy playing one-on-one, making assists, scoring goals, and supporting the team. What I love the most is making people happy and getting them off their seats.”
Savinho, also known as Savio, began his professional journey at Atletico Mineiro in Brazil and moved to Troyes in 2022.
Despite being signed by the Ligue 2 side, he was sent on loan to PSV Eindhoven for the 2022-23 season without ever playing a competitive game.
Despite making just eight appearances for the Dutch giants, Savinho had an impressive loan stint at Girona last season. He netted 11 goals and provided ten assists across all competitions, which ultimately earned him his first senior call-up for Brazil in March.
In the Copa America group stage, he debuted against England and scored his first international goal against Paraguay.
Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s director of football, said he will play a crucial part this season and beyond.
We have full confidence in his ability. Despite his young age, he has great potential to improve, and it’s common knowledge that Pep is the best at fostering player development.
“Nevertheless, he has already demonstrated exceptional quality and technical prowess, making him a captivating addition to our attacking department.”
