Aston Villa have struck a deal with Parma to bring in Japan’s international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki for £29.9 million (€35 million), Sky in Italy reports.
The agreement comes on the same day Juventus reportedly submitted an £8.5 million (€10 million) offer for Villa’s current first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Although the bid falls short of the Premier League club’s valuation of the Argentina international, negotiations between the two clubs are understood to be ongoing.
This summer, Suzuki has become the focal point of a whirlwind goalkeeper transfer saga. Once on the verge of joining European champions Paris Saint-Germain, unexpected complications in that deal gave Aston Villa the chance to intensify their chase for the Japanese star.
Juventus have also maintained a strong interest in Martinez throughout the transfer window and had reportedly considered signing Suzuki on loan from PSG had his proposed move to the French giants been completed.
Suzuki arrived at Parma from Urawa Red Diamonds in 2024 after a stint in Belgium, and quickly became a cornerstone of the team, racking up 57 Serie A appearances over the last two seasons.
The goalkeeper, who turns 24 this month, is also Japan’s first choice at international level. He started all four of his country’s matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Japan’s campaign ended with defeat to Brazil in the Round of 32.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, to a Ghanaian father and Japanese mother, Suzuki grew up in Japan and has risen to become one of the nation’s standout goalkeepers.
