Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams has addressed concerns about possible financial distractions in the Black Stars camp, assuring that the government is taking all necessary steps to keep the team focused ahead of Ghana’s next FIFA World Cup match.
The Black Stars have reached the Round of 32 for the first time since 2010 and will face Colombia after finishing their group campaign with a win over Panama, a goalless draw against England and a defeat to Croatia.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Adams stated that the government has fulfilled its responsibilities and remains committed to maintaining high morale as Ghana aims to advance further in the tournament.
He noted that discussions about a qualification bonus for the next stage are ongoing, though the package has not yet been presented to the players.
“The Black Stars are very highly motivated. Government has done its bit,” Adams said.
“We have a qualification bonus for the next stage to give them. We’ve not offered that yet, but it’s being worked on.
“I don’t want anything financial to derail them.”
If Ghana overcomes Colombia, it will face either Algeria or Switzerland in the Round of 16.
