Ghana face concerns over goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi ahead of the England match

Ghana’s main goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, is working hard to recover in time for the Black Stars’ important Group L match against England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The St. Gallen goalkeeper was substituted at halftime during Ghana’s tough 1-0 win over Panama in Toronto on Wednesday.

Ati-Zigi needed medical attention three times in the first half, including a long pause after a hard collision with Panama’s Carlos Harvey while both went for a high ball in the penalty area.

He seemed to struggle near the end of the first half and often looked toward the bench, which made people worry about his condition.

To be safe, Ghana’s coaches decided to take him off at halftime and brought in local goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper did well as a replacement, staying calm and helping the Black Stars keep a clean sheet.

Ghana grabbed all three points in dramatic style when Caleb Yirenkyi scored a stoppage-time winner from close range after a great team attack.

Coventry City’s Brandon Thomas-Asante was crucial in that moment, using his speed to race down the right side and send a dangerous pass across the goal for Yirenkyi to finish.

With this win, the Black Stars are now second in Group L. They have the same points as England but are behind on goal difference.

Now, all eyes are on Ati-Zigi’s recovery as Ghana gets ready for a big match against England. The team hopes their main goalkeeper will be fit in time.
