Liverpool are close to signing Victor Munoz from Osasuna after triggering his £34.5 million release clause.
Newcastle United were confident they would sign the Spain international and had started arranging a medical, but Liverpool moved in to take over the deal, similar to what happened with Hugo Ekitike last summer.
Munoz, who is playing for Spain at the FIFA World Cup, has already had a medical with Liverpool in the United States. Sky Sports News reports that the 22-year-old is expected to sign a six-year contract at Anfield.
Liverpool will likely pay the transfer fee in two parts as they add a versatile winger to their attack. Munoz usually plays on the left but can also play on the right or in the center.
Liverpool have been watching Munoz for a long time, and their interest grew after they hired head coach Andoni Iraola, who knows Munoz well from his time in Spanish football.

Liverpool’s medical team reportedly went to the United States to carry out Munoz’s medical after getting approval from the Spanish Football Federation to do so during the World Cup.
Munoz started playing football at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy when he was 11, then moved to Real Madrid’s youth team in 2023.
He made his La Liga debut in May 2025 under Xabi Alonso, who now manages Chelsea, coming off the bench for Vinicius Junior in a big match against Barcelona.
Later that summer, Munoz signed a five-year deal with Osasuna and had a strong season, playing in 34 league games and scoring six goals with two assists.

Liverpool think Munoz’s speed, versatility, and potential make him an exciting signing as they look to strengthen their squad for the new season.
