World Cup 2026: Queiroz’s experience crucial for Black Stars – GFA

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum believes the wealth of experience possessed by Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will play a crucial role in Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Iran and Egypt manager was appointed on a short-term contract after Otto Addo’s departure, following Ghana’s back-to-back defeats to Austria and Germany in March.

As the national team searches for stability and consistency, Asante Twum believes Queiroz’s extensive international pedigree makes him the ideal leader to guide the Black Stars into the tournament spotlight.

“Of course, we would have preferred to continue with the coach who guided us to World Cup qualification, but unfortunately, the results were not going in the right direction,” Asante Twum told DW TV.

“After conducting our search, we appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new Black Stars coach. He brings a tremendous amount of experience, and that is exactly what the team needs at this stage,” he added.

Queiroz has already stepped into his new role, overseeing his debut match as Ghana battled to a 1-1 draw with Wales at Cardiff City Stadium.

The Black Stars are currently training in the United States, sharpening their skills for the World Cup, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L.

Ghana will begin its campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Croatia on June 27.

With Queiroz at the helm, the four-time African champions are eager to break their group-stage curse and relive the magic of their unforgettable 2010 quarter-final journey, after early exits in 2014 and 2022.
