A shooting near England’s World Cup base in Kansas City has left nine people injured, casting a shadow just weeks before the Three Lions are set to arrive for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Local authorities reported that officers rushed to Troost Avenue around 4 a.m. Saturday, after gunfire erupted. When they arrived, a large crowd was already streaming away from the scene.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, nine adults sustained injuries and were transported to various hospitals for treatment. Fortunately, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. Investigations remain ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday.
The shooting unfolded uncomfortably close to the training facility and hotel where England will set up their World Cup base.
England is putting the finishing touches on their preparations in Florida before heading to Kansas City on June 13, where they’ll call Swope Soccer Village home for the tournament. The facility also hosts Sporting Kansas City’s reserve and academy teams.
This development also resonates with Ghana, which is gearing up to face England in a highly anticipated Group L clash in Boston on June 23.
Authorities have stated the incident is unrelated to the World Cup or its teams, but its closeness to England’s base has inevitably sparked concern as the tournament approaches.

Kansas City is also serving as the World Cup headquarters for Argentina and the Netherlands.
England began their World Cup preparations with a 1-0 victory over New Zealand and will face Costa Rica in another warm-up match before opening their campaign against Senegal.
Meanwhile, Ghana will begin its World Cup journey against Panama before taking on England and Croatia in its remaining Group L fixtures.
