Asante Kotoko launches investigation into reported bribery attempt ahead of final league match

Asante Kotoko has opened an official investigation into allegations of attempted bribery involving some members of its playing squad ahead of their final Ghana Premier League game against Swedru All Blacks at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday.

Rumors swirled before kickoff that someone had tried to sway certain players ahead of the match. Defender Patrick Asidu stepped forward, alerting club management to the suspicious approach.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the club disclosed that its Board and Management had met with the players and technical team the day before to discuss concerns about the team’s disappointing performances during the 2025/26 season.

The gathering also tackled the bribery claims that cast a shadow over the season’s final showdown.

Kotoko confirmed that a full-scale investigation is underway to uncover the truth behind the allegations, emphasizing the club’s unwavering commitment to integrity, professionalism, and discipline.

Management applauded Asidu for his swift and professional response in bringing the issue to light through the right channels.

“Asante Kotoko treats matters of this nature with utmost seriousness,” the club stated, adding that anyone found guilty would face the necessary disciplinary action.

The Kumasi-based club once again pledged its dedication to accountability and top-tier professionalism as it strives to bounce back from a difficult season.

Amid the off-field turmoil, Kotoko ultimately fell 2-1 to Swedru All Blacks in the match that followed the bribery revelations.
