Ghana’s head coach, Carlos Queiroz, is likely to reveal the Black Stars’ provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup later this week as preparations for the competition pick up pace.
The four-time African champions will take part in the expanded tournament, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Ghana is in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia.
According to FIFA rules, all teams must first submit provisional squads before confirming their final tournament rosters.
Queiroz, who took over after Otto Addo left, is expected to announce his preliminary squad soon and finalize the list by June 1.
The experienced Portuguese coach now has the challenge of building a strong team that can help Ghana perform better on the world stage.
As part of their preparations, the Black Stars will play a friendly against Mexico later this month, then finish their build-up with a match against Wales on June 2.
Ghana will start its World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. They will then face England on June 23 in Boston, and finish the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
The 2026 tournament will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance. They previously played in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with their best result being a quarter-final run in South Africa in 2010.
After exiting in the group stage in 2014 and 2022, the Black Stars hope to achieve a better result this year.
