GFA bans Hohoe United for four years after Premier League withdrawal

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has handed Hohoe United FC a sweeping four-year ban from all domestic competitions, sidelining the club until the 2029/2030 season.

Announced on May 1, 2026, the sanction comes in response to the club’s abrupt withdrawal from the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, a move deemed a clear violation of Article 13 of the competition’s regulations.

The Committee stated that Hohoe United officially notified the GFA of their decision to exit the league on April 1, 2026, a move that triggered swift disciplinary measures and led to severe punishment.

Beyond the suspension, the ruling sends shockwaves through the club. Every registered player is now a free agent, courtesy of the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee, though any existing transfer contracts still stand. This opens doors for players to seek fresh opportunities while respecting previous commitments.

The Committee also directed the club to repay all forms of support received from the GFA during the season, including financial assistance and logistical provisions such as equipment. The decision further clarifies that the suspension does not cancel any outstanding debts owed by the club.

Once the ban is lifted, Hohoe United will not reclaim their spot in the top flight. Instead, they must restart their journey in Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.

In line with GFA regulations, the ruling allows any affected party to file an appeal with the Appeals Committee within 3 days of the date of notification.
