Ghana’s newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is reportedly not earning the widely circulated $100,000 monthly salary, according to sources close to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The Ghana Football Association officially unveiled the 73-year-old tactician on April 16 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, confirming his appointment ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz, who has previously managed national teams such as Egypt, Iran, and Portugal, has signed a short-term four-month contract to lead the Black Stars.
He takes over from Otto Addo, who was dismissed in March following successive defeats to Austria and Germany.
Although earlier reports claimed the former Real Madrid manager would earn $100,000 per month, insiders have dismissed those figures as inaccurate.
Authorities indicate that the Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, is expected to address the matter publicly and clarify the coach’s actual salary.
Queiroz arrives with a five-member technical team and is set to begin preparations with friendly matches against Mexico next month, followed by another test against Wales on June 2 as part of Ghana’s World Cup buildup.
The Black Stars will compete in Group L at the tournament, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where they will face the England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Following early group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, expectations are high for an improved showing, with Queiroz tasked with guiding the four-time African champions beyond the group stage for the first time in over a decade.
