2026 World Cup: Fred Pappoe backs Queiroz with prayers and hope

Fred Pappoe has endorsed Carlos Queiroz as the right man to lead Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

Queiroz is taking over from Otto Addo on a four-month contract. He was officially introduced on Thursday at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, starting his important role as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After the unveiling, Pappoe told SuperSport Blitz that there is not much time to prepare, but he believes Queiroz has the experience and calm needed for the job.

“We had to appoint a coach less than three months before the World Cup, but that is the situation we find ourselves in,” he said.

“Leaders are meant to solve problems, and I believe Carlos Queiroz is the right man for where we are now. He is experienced, confident, realistic, commands respect, and is humble. These qualities are very important.”

Pappoe, who was also chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, said Queiroz’s background makes him a good fit for the current challenge and urged everyone to support the new coach.

“He fits the job, and the moment we are in, so we all have to support him and hope for success,” he added.

Queiroz is set to start right away. Ghana will play friendly matches against Mexico next month and Wales on June 2 as part of their preparations.

The Black Stars will play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They are in Group L with England, Croatia, and Panama.

Ghana will start its World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, then play England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

After early exits in 2014 and 2022, there are high hopes for a better performance this time. Queiroz is now expected to lead the team past the group stage, facing new pressure and attention.
