Antoine Semenyo acknowledges Panama threat with Ghana focused on World Cup success

Antoine Semenyo has warned Ghana not to underestimate Panama as they prepare to start their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. He stressed the importance of staying focused in every group match.

The Black Stars will begin their tournament against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. After that, they will play Croatia and England in what many see as a tough Group L.

Although most of the focus has been on the match against England, Semenyo thinks the first game could be just as important.

“It’s a tough group because Panama should not be underestimated,” he said. “Some people might think it will be an easy game, but it won’t be. They are a strong opponent.”

The forward is expected to play an important part as Ghana tries to move past the group stage. He emphasized that qualifying for the next round is the team’s main goal.

“Croatia and England are strong teams, of course. Our main goal is to get out of the group, but it will not be easy,” he added.

Semenyo chose to play for Ghana even though he could have played for England. He is now getting ready for his second World Cup after playing in the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

He admitted there are challenges ahead, especially since the squad is still changing and some key players are missing. Still, he is determined to make a difference as Ghana tries to move forward from a tough group.
