GFA ends Winfried Schäfer’s role as Black Stars technical shake‑up continues

The Ghana Football Association has reportedly ended its partnership with Black Stars technical advisor Winfried Schäfer as it continues to restructure the senior national team’s backroom staff.

Schäfer was appointed in late 2024 to help Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He left soon after Addo was dismissed. The FA is now changing the technical team ahead of the World Cup.

More changes are expected, and the new head coach will likely be able to choose his own backroom staff.

Several well-known coaches have been mentioned for the open position, such as Slaven Bilić, Carlos Queiroz, and Fernando Santos.

A new coach should be announced soon, but there will be little time to get the team ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will play in a group with Panama, England, and Croatia. Their campaign starts on June 17.
