The Ghana Football Association (GFA) plans to name a new permanent Black Stars head coach by November 2026 after Carlos Queiroz left the role.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says the committee leading the search aims to complete the recruitment process by the end of November.
Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren will serve as interim head coach of the Black Stars for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Somalia.
He will work with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, while Fatawu Dauda will stay on as the goalkeepers’ coach.
The five-member committee searching for Queiroz’s permanent replacement recommended the interim technical team.
Asante Twum told Luv FM that the committee expects to give an update on the appointment after the two matches against Somalia.
“They want to have a coach in place by November. I don’t have a specific date, but by the end of the two games against Somalia, they should be able to announce who our coach will be,” he said.
However, Asante Twum stressed that getting Ghana’s AFCON qualifying campaign back on track is the main priority.
“The two upcoming games are more important than anything else. We need to get back on track and get results in these matches,” he added.
The Black Stars are at the bottom of Group C with no points after losing to Ivory Coast and The Gambia in their first two games.
Ghana hopes to revive their chances of qualifying by beating Somalia, with both matches set to be played at home.
The four-time African champions want to return to the continental tournament after missing the 2025 edition in Morocco, where they finished last in their group without a win.
