Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca called Antoine Semenyo’s injury a setback. The Ghanaian forward is expected to miss eight weeks with a knee injury.
Semenyo picked up the injury during City’s 3-2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town on Saturday. He came on for Jeremy Doku in the 77th minute.
The 26-year-old has scored two goals and provided three assists in nine games across all competitions since the start of the 2026/27 season.
Before City’s Champions League match against AEK Athens, Maresca said he was disappointed to lose Semenyo but noted the team has other attacking options.
“First of all, to lose Antoine or any player for us is not good,” Maresca said.
Semenyo was seen as a backup for Erling Haaland at central striker, which could have given the Norwegian some rest.
With Semenyo out, Maresca said City will look at other options if needed, but Haaland is still his main choice up front.
“In terms of Erling, we said we can use Antoine as a nine, but we have different players, and we are going to try to find a new solution. We will see.
“At the moment it’s Erling. Why do we need to think about a different nine when Erling is there? If something happens and we need a different plan or different nine, we will see.”
