Charles Akonnor has ruled himself out of the race to become head coach of the Ghana national football team following the dismissal of Otto Addo.
The Ghana Football Association parted ways with Addo after a string of poor results, including a 2-1 loss to Germany. This left the Black Stars without a coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Akonnor, who managed Ghana between 2020 and 2021, had been linked with a return. However, the 52-year-old stressed he is fully committed to his current role at Gor Mahia.
He explained his focus remains on the title race. Gor Mahia is currently leading the Kenyan Premier League and aims to reclaim the trophy after last season’s disappointment.
While reaffirming his support for Ghana, Akonnor made it clear he has no plans to leave his position. The Black Stars, drawn in a group with England, Croatia, and Panama, continue their search for a new coach ahead of the tournament.
