Prince Osei and Hamza Obeng will take charge of Kotoko against Hearts of Oak after Zito left

Asante Kotoko’s Matchday 22 clash with Hearts of Oak will be managed by assistant coaches Prince Osei Yaw and Hamza Obeng, following head coach Karim Zito’s exit.

Having worked closely with Zito since last season, the pair will now lead the Porcupine Warriors at a crucial point in the season. Both were part of the technical staff during Kotoko’s previous 1-0 win over Hearts and aim to replicate that success.

Mounting pressure from inconsistent results led to Zito’s departure. Kotoko currently sits fifth in the Ghana Premier League with 35 points from 21 matches.

Their situation worsened when Aduana FC eliminated them from the FA Cup. After a goalless draw at Baba Yara Stadium, Kotoko lost 4-2 on penalties, ending their title defense and increasing supporter dissatisfaction.

Reports indicate that Zito and the Interim Management Committee held an emergency meeting and mutually agreed to part ways. After leading Kotoko to FA Cup victory last season, Zito, who began in April 2025, struggled with consistency this season, leaving the team eight points behind Medeama SC.

Attention now turns to the Super Clash this Sunday, February 14, at Baba Yara Stadium. Kotoko seeks stability and a strong performance under interim leadership.
