South Africa kicked off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a spirited 2-1 victory over Angola, lighting up Group B at the bustling Grand Stade de Marrakech on Monday.
Oswin Appollis fired Bafana Bafana ahead in the 17th minute after a dynamic opening. Seizing a loose ball, the winger danced past defenders and slotted coolly beyond Hugo Marques. Angola soon found its rhythm, however, forcing South Africa onto the back foot as set-pieces became increasingly threatening.
Angola equalized in the 34th minute after Show’s flick off Fredy’s free-kick beat Ronwen Williams.
South Africa dictated the tempo after halftime, with Coach Hugo Broos injecting fresh energy through Moremi’s introduction. The team pressed relentlessly: Mbokazi rattled the woodwork, and Lyle Foster saw his goal ruled out for offside.
Capitalizing on a high press, Foster unleashed a stunning right-footed strike into the top corner in the 79th minute. The victory cements South Africa’s strong standing in Group B.
