AshantiGold 04 chief executive officer Edward Kwasi Akuoko says the club’s poor away record and reported internal challenges within the technical team were key factors behind the dismissal of head coach Karim Zito.
The Ghana Premier League side announced on Tuesday that Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere, and goalkeepers’ trainer Robert Dabuo had been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
An interim technical team will oversee the club until a substantive head coach is appointed.
Explaining the decision, Akuoko said the club had expected more consistent performances despite its status as a newly promoted side.
“As a serious club, you always want to win. I’m not a leader who lowers expectations because we are a newly promoted side. We are not saying we must win the league, but we expect consistency. Our away performances have been poor,” he said.
The CEO also disclosed that management had received reports of strained relations within the technical team, which he believes may have affected results on the pitch.
“I received reports that members of the technical team led by Karim Zito were not on good terms, and that could be affecting our performances,” he added.
AshantiGold 04 have made an inconsistent start to the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season, recording three wins, two draws and three defeats from their first eight matches.
The club sits 10th in the standings with 11 points, prompting management to make changes to the technical setup.
The Miners will next face Swedru All Blacks in a Matchday Nine fixture at Swedru Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
