The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Local Organising Committee for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 have produced a full list of banned items for all tournament locations, including alcohol and laser pointers.
These steps, revealed before the tournament started in December, aim to create a secure, equitable, and welcoming atmosphere across all venues.
CAF banned laser pointers following incidents during African and international matches in which fans used them to distract players. Officials believe the action jeopardizes fair play and is dangerous.
According to a LOC official, CAF has resolved to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for any actions that jeopardize player or match integrity. Teams and officials have increasingly criticized the issue, resulting in tougher regulations.
In line with Moroccan law and cultural customs, CAF has confirmed that alcohol will not be permitted inside or near any AFCON 2025 stadiums. Glass bottles, cans, and similar containers are prohibited due to enhanced safety protocols for groups.
Prohibited items are weapons, pyrotechnics, large bags, and offensive banners.
CAF and Moroccan authorities state that the rules are part of a wider security plan that uses trained safety and security staff. Organizers say football and a seamless tournament are the main goals, with Africa’s best players involved.
