Borussia Dortmund part ways with coach Sahin

Borussia Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League loss to Bologna (2-1) on Tuesday resulted in the announcement of coach Nuri Sahin’s departure.
Dortmund suffered their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions, dropping them to 13th in the 36-team Champions League standings. The Bundesliga table places them tenth.
Following the departure of their manager, Dortmund, currently under the interim guidance of U-19 coach Mike Tullberg, is searching for a new coach to guide them in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ in the USA, beginning June 14th.
“We appreciate Nuri Sahin and his work. We have wanted to work together for a long time and hoped that we could turn things around together until the end,” said Borussia Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken.
“However, after four defeats in a row, with just one win from the last nine games and currently tenth in the Bundesliga table, we have unfortunately lost faith that we can still achieve our sporting goals. This decision also hurts me personally, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna.”
Sahin’s record since his June 2024 appointment stands at 12 wins from 27 competitive matches.
He said: “Unfortunately, we haven’t fulfilled Borussia Dortmund’s sporting ambitions at this season stage. I wish this special club all the best.”
