Milovan Rajevac’s sack cost over $100,000 – Henry Asante Twum

The Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante-Twum, announced that they paid over $100,000 in compensation to former Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac after his dismissal.
The Serbian manager succeeded CK Akonnor, but his tenure ended abruptly after Ghana’s disappointing group stage elimination at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Sports Ministry instructed the GFA to reform the Black Stars Management Committee, resulting in his dismissal.
In an interview on Joy Sports, Asante Twum addressed the GFA’s financial struggles to settle Milovan’s outstanding payments.
Asante Twum explained, “When Milo [Milovan Rajevac] was fired, it became an issue because he didn’t have time to waste, so he went to FIFA.”
“FIFA’s decision in Milo’s favor resulted in us having to pay over $100,000. It was about $117,000 or so. The Ministry refused to cooperate, even after repeated requests, which forced the FA to pay the amount.
According to him, this situation has made the GFA cautious about making decisions regarding Otto Addo’s future as head coach.
Following his team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, Otto Addo is facing heavy scrutiny, with many football enthusiasts demanding his dismissal.
The Executive Council is still deliberating the future of the 47-year-old after a long meeting.
The Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON 2024 represents a significant slump in their performance. With a mere three points, the team ended up in last place in Group F, marking their first absence from the continental showpiece in 21 years.
The GFA’s financial issues with coach compensation, alongside the Black Stars’ poor performance, have amplified the need for structural changes in the national team’s management.
