The GFA has reported four betting companies to the Gaming Commission of Ghana to stop unauthorized betting on GPL matches.
Soccabet, Sportybet, Football.com, and ilotbet are alleged to have provided odds on GFA-sanctioned matches without proper authorization.
The GFA has contacted the Gaming Commission for help in investigating these companies and stopping their unauthorized betting activities. The Football Association emphasized that using match data for betting without permission violates its rights and rules.
The Gaming Commission, which is responsible for granting licenses to gaming operators and companies that conduct promotions involving games of chance, will oversee the investigation.
The GFA strictly prohibits unauthorized betting on football matches, considering it a threat to the sport’s integrity and reputation. GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku issued a stern warning during the 30th Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
“We have not licensed any betting company to take odds on our games,” President Simeon-Okraku stated at the August 27, 2024 event. He cautioned that the GFA’s legal team would soon retaliate against unauthorized betting companies offering odds on GPL matches.
The GFA president stated that although they are open to partnering with betting companies, any collaboration must adhere to the necessary regulations.
