Black Stars winger Ernest Nuamah may miss the first two AFCON qualifiers due to an injury from a recent Ligue 1 match.
Nuamah sustained the injury during his match against AS Monaco while playing for Olympique Lyon. In the 18th minute, Georges Mikautadze had to replace him.
Lyon’s woes worsened after a 2-0 defeat, keeping them at the bottom of the league with no points.
The injury couldn’t have come worse for the Black Stars, who are gearing up for two crucial qualifiers in early September.
Ghana will be playing Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on September 5, and then they will face Niger on September 9 in Berkane, Morocco.
Nuamah’s absence could greatly impact Ghana’s chances of a strong qualifier start.
The head coach, Otto Addo, must reconsider his strategies because of Nuamah’s injury.
Despite this setback, it is expected that Addo will put together a strong team to carry on the momentum from their recent successes, which include back-to-back victories against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana must be at its absolute best to secure a spot in the tournament, which will be held in Morocco next year.
