Jannik Sinner beats Daniil Medvedev with epic comeback to win Australian Open

Jannick Sinner has won the Australian Open following a brilliant comeback victory over Daniil Medvedev in Melbourne.

Sinner lost the first two sets 6-3 6-3 before winning the next two 6-4 6-4. He then beat Medvedev 6-3 in the fifth and final set to win the first Grand Slam of his career.

The 22-year-old has become the first Italian to win the Australian Open. He is only the second Italian male to win a Grand Slam in the Open Era after Adriano Panatta won the French Open in 1976.

The defeat for Medvedev represents more heartbreak for the Russian as he is now the only men’s player to lose in two Grand Slam finals having been two sets up.
